Our History
In the 1990s, Alan Lovett found himself presenting trivia for a Melbourne-based company as a way of supplementing his income as an entertainer. He discovered that his wide professional experience on stage made him popular as a host for trivia events. He also discovered that the programme he was presenting was out-dated and bland (also, his employer hated paying him on any sort of regular basis). So, he started out on his own whilst still hosting for other companies.
At the start of 2002, he formed the Melbourne Trivia Company. Because of his own experience, he decided to use only experienced professional performers as hosts. He also decided to re-write the programme, keeping the better aspects of 'traditional' trivia nights whilst introducing new ideas and relevant questions. His invention of Hip Golf, specially designed for trivia events, was even exhibited by Innovic, the State Government's innovations initiative.
The lively paced programmes and modern approach have made Melbourne Trivia very popular, and we keep analysing and working to improve the programme. People at our fundraising events will see a hilarious new game next year: we call it Snuff – no, it doesn't involve death or danger, just a lot of laughs.
