The Cornish Arms Hotel in Brunswick has decided to change its weekly trivia time to Tuesday evenings at 6.45. The talented Adam McKenzie will still be your host. To soften the blow, the Cornish has asked us to let you know that they will be offering drink specials to trivians, including Carlton pots for $3 and Carlton pints for $6.
The first night at the new time will be Tuesday 17th January at 6.45 pm.
Hope you all had a great Christmas. At Melbourne Trivia we’re slowly winding up for another great year.
Our hotel trivia gets going again over the next few weeks. We’re still waiting for actual dates from a couple – check our Upcoming Events page.
One new event this year is in April. The wonderful coffee house St Ali in South Melbourne will be home to a series of late night events during the Melbourne Comedy Festival. Alan has been invited to host a trivia quiz on 20th April (details on our Upcoming Events page).
If you’re over the same old, same old at the Hi Fi bar and Town Hall this year, venture into South Melbourne for some really funny, very un-stale comedy experiences. The programme will be out soon.
Congratulations to the Big West Festival for a close win on Wednesday night. For the ninth year, we challenged Melbourne’s major festivals and arts organisations to do battle… and they did. Commiserations to St Kilda Festival, who led for most of the evening, only to miss out by one point on the final round. Oh well… next year.
We’re excited to announce that from Thursday 11th November we’ll be starting weekly trivia at The Cornish Arms in Brunswick. Talented comedian, Adam McKenzie (Hounds of the Baskervilles) will be your host.
August has gone crazy. We are pretty well booked out for the month, with all of our hosts very busy. Not only trivia events but our question creator, Alan, has new projects coming in. Keeps him off the streets!
Wonder why we’re hard to get sometimes? In the last couple of weeks: Alan Lovett hosted the very successful Open Day at Hamer Hall (Victorian Arts Centre) on top of his many trivia appearances; Janet McLeod has been casting a new ABC TV comedy programme and running Local Laughs and her own trivia night and Danny McGinlay has been up all night writing up the World Cup for a media company as well as his usual comedy appearances.
When we say our hosts are working professionals, we are!
This week’s Tuesday Trivia at the Prov was the biggest crowd we’ve had there – at the start, there were 90 playing but late arrivals took the number to over 100. Great fun, lots of laughs and great competition.
The Provincial, the Albion and the Sherlock were all packed this week. We had to bring in three extra tables at the Prov! Hard work for the hosts but we really like a crowd – we are entertainers after all. It’s more fun and more competition for the players too. It is a warning that you need to ring and book to guarantee getting in.
You’re looking at Melbourne Trivia’s new website. Hope you like it. We’re still finding the odd bug, so please be patient (and maybe tell us about it through the Contacts page). We hope it’ll be bugless very soon. The site was designed by Graeme Bunton in Toronto, around the new logo designed by Engana Graphics in Melbourne.
Melbourne Fringe have announced that they will be once again taking on the other major Melbourne Festivals in the Fringe Trivia Challenge in September. This annual tradition brings the festivals together to drink, talk, laugh and try to out- trivia each other whilst pretending they don’t care who wins.
